PARENTING PLANS

A Parenting Plan, sometimes referred to dsc_0067as a custody agreement, is a written agreement detailing how time with the children will be shared and how decisions about the children will be made. If parents have a well thought out Parenting Plan in place, the parents and children will know what to expect and fewer conflicts can be expected.

There are many important issues to cover in a Parenting Plan. Attorney Mehaffie helps parents and caregivers create a Parenting Plan to plan the children’s regular schedule, holidays, vacations and special events. These plans also set forth how decisions will be made about the children and what to do when the parents cannot agree. Other important areas to cover in a Parenting Plan include transportation, children’s exposure to social media, and appropriate restrictions.

We will provide you with guidance on what the courts consider when making an order for custody and help you develop your Parenting Plan in a manner that is in the best interests of the child. In some cases, we can draft a Parenting Plan that the other party will agree to, thus avoiding the need for child custody litigation.
