TERMINATION OF PARENTAL RIGHTS AND CHILD DEPENDENCY
Parents who are facing possible termination of their parental rights absolutely require skilled legal representation. Parents in these cases are often scared, confused and do not know where to turn. Often times if parents are provided with appropriate social services, the issues that lead to their involvement with the court system can be resolved. There is no doubt that child dependency process is very complex and confusing for parents.
If a child protective service agency (often referred to as “Children and Youth Services”) believes that a child is at risk, a safety plan may be implemented. Other times a petition for dependency may be filed.
Attorney Mehaffie has helped parents deal with child protective service agencies in various circumstances. She was honored to be appointed as conflict counsel by the Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas to represent parents facing termination of their parental rights.
Attorney Mehaffie has represented parents facing termination of their parental rights at the trial court level and on appeal.
